Our Term 4 Themes
Colour & Playdough Laboratory
Week 1
Tuesday 13th October &
Wednesday 14th October
Our colour laboratory will be ready for mixing, pouring and making natural playdough! Children will pop on a lab coat, scoop and mix ingredients, then knead colour into their playdough. They’ll explore what happens when colours meet before rolling, squashing and pressing leaves and natural materials into their playdough to make different patterns.
Dinosaur Dig Site
Week 2
Tuesday 20th October &
Wednesday 21st October
Dinosaur tails on, we’ve got some digging to do! Children will follow footprints, uncover buried fossils and brush away the sand. They’ll also be able to touch, feel and investigate real ancient marine fossils, looking closely at creatures preserved in stone. At the craft table, they’ll press dinosaur feet into clay to make their own footprint fossil to take home.
Wonderhood Portrait Studio
Week 3
Tuesday 27th October &
Wednesday 28th October
Our portrait studio is all about loving the body that belongs to you! We’ll look in mirrors, make faces and move our bodies, noticing what makes each of us unique and what our bodies can do. Children will choose leaves, grass and petals to create their own self-portrait, with leafy hair or petal cheeks, ready to take home.
Sunshine & Shadow Studio
Week 4
Wednesday 4th November
No Tuesday classes on 3rd November due to the Melbourne Cup Day public holiday. Wednesday classes will run as usual.
This week, we’ll use sunshine to make pictures on cyanotype paper, a special paper that reacts to sunlight! Children will collect leaves, arrange their designs and help rinse the paper to reveal a blue nature print to take home. There’ll also be time to explore the light table and play with shadows, making them bigger, smaller and moving them around.
Wonderhood Minibeast Rescue
Week 5
Tuesday 10th November &
Wednesday 11th November
Our garden rangers have some tiny creatures to find! Children will pop on safari vests, search for hidden toy minibeasts and bring them back to the ranger station for a closer look. They’ll then squeeze, roll and curl clay to make their own snail, choosing bark and fallen leaves for its woodland shelter. Their snail and shelter will come home together.
The Wonderhood Forest Fizz Factory
Week 6
Tuesday 17th November &
Wednesday 18th November
Lab coats on, we’ve got some mixing to do! Children will crush herbs, scoop petals and mix coloured water using droppers, funnels and wooden spoons. They’ll follow simple picture recipes to prepare their forest potions, then add the final ingredient and watch their mixtures bubble and fizz. There’ll be plenty of time to try another batch before we make a shared bubbling brew together.
Wonderhood I Spy Club
Week 7
Tuesday 24th November &
Wednesday 25th November
Binoculars ready! Children will decorate their own collecting box, with a picture checklist tucked inside the lid, before heading out to see what they can find. We’ll look closely, match our discoveries to the pictures and sort our nature treasures. Their collecting box will come home with them, ready for another search in the garden or park.
Wonderhood Bush Market
Week 8
Tuesday 1st December &
Wednesday 2nd December
Our Bush Market is open for business! Children will fill baskets with wooden fruit and vegetables, weigh their shopping and help pack orders. With chef hats, scales and picture shopping lists, there’ll be plenty of jobs to try. They can take a turn as a shopkeeper, make a delivery or help their grown-up choose something from the stalls.
The Lost Reindeer Trail
Week 9
Tuesday 8th December &
Wednesday 9th December
Some reindeer have left a trail through Wonderhood, and we’ll need help following it! Children will search for footprints and clues, carry supplies and help decorate our tree. At the craft table, they’ll use twigs and natural materials to make a reindeer decoration to take home, before we finish the term together.
Wonderhood Rock Pets
Catch-up Class
Tuesday 15th December &
Wednesday 16th December
We’ll finish with one more morning together at our Rock Pets catch-up class. Children will choose a smooth stone, give it a wash and paint a face to make a pet of their own. They’ll choose a name and arrange fabric and fallen leaves in a little cardboard bed, ready to take their new pet home.
Term 4 families can use their one complimentary catch-up place for a class missed during the term. Booking is essential and places are subject to availability.
