Wonderhood may look beautiful, but the setup is only the beginning!
Every class is built around one clear idea and a real role for children to step into. One week they might be builders planning a village; the next they’re delivering forest mail, making birds’ nests, organising a seed library or caring for toy wildlife.
The tools, materials, movement, music and making all belong to the same story, giving children plenty of different ways to understand the idea and join in.
A Very Important Job to Do
At Wonderhood, children aren’t simply shown an activity. They’re invited into the middle of it!
As builders, they carry materials, test bridges and decide where the village roads should go. At the Forest Post Office, they match animals to addresses and remember delivery routes. At the Teddy Bear Hospital, they weigh, measure and care for toy patients before returning them home
These playful jobs give children a reason to talk, move, cooperate, make decisions and solve small problems.
Small Hands, Real Tools
Children work with clay, bark, feathers, twigs, seeds, beans, herbs, citrus, soil and water
They use child-sized tongs, scoops, magnifying glasses, droppers, funnels, rolling pins, clipboards and mortar and pestles to investigate what is in front of them.
Sorting beans with tongs takes control and concentration. Building with sticks and clay involves balance and problem-solving. Crushing herbs and measuring water encourages children to notice smells, textures, quantities and changes.
1. Arrive and Settle
We welcome everyone in with our morning song using instruments and then follow on to our name song to introduce ourselves to our friends.
2. Uncover the Theme
While still in the morning circle, we will talk about the days theme, sometime this might include handing around object to assist with the theme e.g. dinosaur day we handed around real fossils to look at.
3. Our Main Activity
Children might follow a forest delivery route, follow a nature scavenger hunt, create our own essential oil playdough, complete a builder course, search for birds or move like Australian animals!
4. Investigate and Make
Many of our sessions have a craft element to them, not all of them though. In session where we create a take home craft the children will be offered real materials to create something special. For our Nests Day our children were able to explore what birds nests are made from, they were able to create and take home their very own air-dried clay birds nest!
5. Journal and Goodbye
At the end of each class we have time at our journal station to add in our weekly reflection sheet which contains a weekly affirmation on the topic, and key learning words. Children then have the oppertunity to stick in anything special they collected during the session, add in drawings, artworks, finger print, anything that brings them joy!
We then finish the session back on the mat with a small breathing exercise and our Kindness song to conclude the class.
The theme changes each week, but the shape of our 60-minute class stays familiar. This helps children settle into the space and gradually learn what comes next.

Wonderhood is a parent or caregiver accompanied class. You’re invited to join the experience rather than watch from the edge.
That might mean carrying forest mail, helping to hold a funnel, searching for birds, taking a Bush Bakery order or simply sitting nearby while your child gets comfortable.
It’s time to do something together, with the idea, materials and preparation already taken care of!

Children use their journal during final part of each class, adding in thier reflection sheets and anything that they may have found during class and want to keep and document.
